Evelyns Garden

A note from Haley (founder of Evelyns Garden)

Evelyn’s Garden began as a small seed in 2017, when I bought an old horsebox and transformed her into a cosy little home I lived solo for years. With some encouragement from friends, I decided to share the lifestyle I loved and rent her out, which led me to Penny at Down Barn Farm. She warmly embraced my vision for a humble glamping space, and her former horse paddocks—with their beautiful countryside views—became the perfect setting. What started with Lady Evelyn (named after my dear Grandma), the simple Horse-box rental soon grew into the wild retreat now known as Evelyn’s Garden today. Lady Evelyns sought a new family, offering us funds to expand, build new facilities, and create more nourishing spaces for our community. Season by season, the garden continues to grow organically, offering an immersive, nature-led escape for all who visit.

about DOWN BARN FARM

A Note from Penny, Owner of Down Barn Farm

bought Down Barn Farm in 1992, a beautiful 100-acre corner of what was once a much larger estate. After my husband passed away, I was drawn to this peaceful place and its wonderful riding country, bringing with me a small herd of cattle and two horses. Over the years I grew the herd into beautiful Beef Shorthorn cattle and added rare Tamworth pigs, all cared for outdoors and as naturally as possible. In 1995 the farm became fully organic, reflecting my lifelong belief in working gently with the land and avoiding chemicals. For many years I welcomed Ridgeway walkers, B&B guests, and campers—and it brings me great joy that this spirit of hospitality now continues through Evelyn’s Garden, nestled warmly within the farm’s history, landscape, and way of life.

With love,
